Projects & Improvements
This initiative focuses on coordinated improvements that, together, transform how the riverfront is experienced.
How This Work Happens
Caring for and improving public spaces like the Schuylkill River Corridor requires both public leadership and private support.
The City of Philadelphia, through Parks & Recreation, plays a critical role in managing and maintaining these spaces. At the same time, many of the enhancements that make parks feel welcoming, safe, and vibrant are made possible through partnership with organizations, philanthropy, and community leadership.
We are proud to work in close partnership with Fairmount Park Conservancy, whose mission is to support and advance improvements throughout the park system in alignment with the City.
Across Philadelphia, hundreds of “friends” groups and community-led efforts help care for local parks and public spaces. The Women’s Alliance for the Empowerment of River Spaces exists in that same spirit—bringing focus, resources, and advocacy to this vital stretch of the Schuylkill Riverfront.
Long before Philadelphia’s skyline rose around it, people gathered along the Schuylkill River; and, nearly two centuries later, they still do. Few places in America carry a sporting and civic legacy like this one - where competition, community, nature, and public life continue to meet along the water’s edge.

Priority Projects
Supporting Public Realm Improvements
Improvements across the corridor will ensure the riverfront feels welcoming, functional, and well cared for:
Benches and seating that invite rest and connection

A public restroom facility to support longer, more inclusive use
Celebrating Philadelphia’s Women Trailblazers
Design elements will deepen connection to place by:
Celebrating women in Philadelphia’s history
Reflecting the cultural and civic significance of the riverfront
Creating moments of learning, reflection, and recognition
